I’m reading Chuck Conniry’s Soaring in the Spirit and in his chapter on mystery, he mentions an exchange between John Kavanaugh and Mother Teresa. Kavanaugh was uncertain about what he was supposed to do with his life so he spent 3 months with Mother Teresa in Calcutta to figure out his direction.
On the first day that he was there, Kavanaugh asked Teresa what it would take to have the same clarity in his life that Teresa seemed to have. Teresa laughed and said, “I have never had clarity; what I have always had is trust.” She prayed that God would give Kavanaugh trust instead of clarity. (170)
